AMD is preparing a new graphics architecture called UDNA that will be adopted not only in future Radeon graphics cards , but also in next-generation consoles, namely the upcoming PlayStation 6 and the new Xbox model .
Information shared by a generally reliable source (Kepler_L2) indicates that this architecture will bring significant improvements, especially in performance related to ray tracing and artificial intelligence, with an expected doubling compared to the current generation.
Raster performance will also see an increase of approximately 20 percent per compute unit, which represents a significant step forward over RDNA 4 and even more so over RDNA 3.
Currently, the PS5 Pro uses 60 compute units and the Xbox Series X uses 56. Both already offer great ray tracing and AI capabilities, but UDNA promises to take that performance to a much higher level.
The overall number of compute units is also expected to increase in new AMD products. One example is the Radeon RX 9070 XT , with 64 RDNA 4-based CUs , which despite having fewer units than the previous generation’s 96, still manages to maintain high performance thanks to architectural improvements, especially in the areas of ray tracing and AI.
AMD will be pushing hard on path tracing, upscaling, and frame generation technologies, which will be increasingly central to the future of gaming.
In support there will be new machine learning and neural intelligence functions, designed to improve not only the image quality, but also the overall stability of the gaming experience. All of this is in line with what AMD has already shown, for example with its FSR 4 Redstone technology .
Even though this is unofficial information at the moment, the prospects appear very concrete, especially considering the recent developments in the Radeon field. The anticipation for the official announcements is high and the premises give hope for a substantial technological leap in the world of GPUs and consoles.
