Noted developer and hacker Flatz has announced that he is working on an enhanced version of HEN for the PlayStation 5 that could finally allow FPKG packages to be installed and run on the console, without relying on the “kstuff” payload currently used by etaHEN .
This project would represent a huge step forward for the homebrew scene on PS5, as it would overcome one of the toughest technical obstacles: the inability to run games and software in FPKG format, currently managed in a complex and unstable way via folder-format backups.

The PS5 features sophisticated security features, such as an A53 processor that verifies digital signatures and a kernel set to “Execute Only” mode, making reverse engineering extremely difficult.
Despite this, the underground scene has already achieved significant results, thanks to exploits such as BD-JB and UMTX, which allow homebrew to be launched on firmware up to version 7.61.
However, backup management is still problematic and limited, with solutions like Itemzflow requiring complex steps and not offering the ease of use of the PS4’s typical FPKG.
Flatz ‘s role is crucial: a historical figure in the PS3 and PS4 scene, he has always preferred a technical and methodical approach, publishing detailed analyses rather than ready-to-use tools.
Back in 2023, he claimed to have gained access to the PS5’s Platform Secure Processor and developed an exploit for the hypervisor through a modified PS4 game save, thus gaining access to crucial decryption keys.
Flatz HEN builds on these findings. The new payload not only aims to replace kstuff , but may also introduce deeper kernel patches to enable FPKG support.
As shared on X by @LightningMods_ and @aldostools , a version called “Flatz HEN v2” is being tested, potentially compatible with a wider range of firmwares.
Currently, the hypervisor exploit is only confirmed for firmwares between 1.xx and 4.51, which are considered among the most suitable for jailbreaking.
Later versions of the PS5 firmware may require new exploits, especially after the patches Sony introduced in recent system updates.
From a practical standpoint, Flatz HEN will likely run via BD-JB, either using a Blu-ray disc or a web host, it is also possible that the PS5 BDJB Modified ISO will be updated to support running the new HEN.
While the process currently requires a console with an optical drive, Flatz hinted that a future WebKit exploit could extend compatibility to digital editions of the PS5 as well.
Flatz HEN will likely be integrated into etaHEN , maintaining full compatibility with existing tools like the toolbox, cheats and Itemzflow .
This will ensure a smooth transition for users, while still allowing for any required firmware or configuration updates.
The scene remains awaiting a public release, but the premises suggest an epochal change for the jailbreak of Sony’s new generation console.
