The team responsible for developing the RPCS3emulator announced an update of the
hardwarerequirements, the first in over 4 years.
This change, intended to improve the game experience on the latest hardware, has been made necessary by the increasing availability of modern and performing components.
New hardware requirements
1. Recommended CPU
- Intel: From Skylake (6th Generation) to Comet Lake (10th Generation)
- AMD: From Zen 2 (series 3000) to Zen 3 (5000 series)
2. Recommended RAM
- 8 GB to 16 GB
3. Minim RAM
- 4 GB to 8 GB
These changes do not result from an update of the emulator that makes it more resource-demanding. Rather, the decision was made to ensure a more robust and smoother gaming experience, leveraging the modern hardware now more widely available.
Why Update the Requirements?
Adjusting hardware requirements means that new reports on games marked as “Playable” will now refer to the new recommended standards, rather than older architectures such as Skylake (suntil obsolete) or Zen 2, which have more inter-CCX latency issues.
This move marks a significant step forward for RPCS3, which aims to provide an emulation experience as close as possible to next-generation consoles, while optimizing the resources available on modern hardware.
