released ppsspp switch 1.17.1

It’s been just over 4 years since the last update of the PPSSPP emulator on Switch console, now the developer m4xw said enough, it’s time to upgrade it to the latest version.

This means that PPSSPP Switch now integrates all the fixes and changes addressed in recent years, and there are not a few since the latest one dates back to version 1.9/1.9.3+.

Differences with the PPSSPP core

  • Includes a GLES2 and GL version (use GLES2 for GTA or other problematic games, otherwise the GL version is always recommended as it is much more stable and bug-free).
  • JIT Improvements (now it should work on all versions of Horizon), masking is no longer necessary, so JIT masking bugs are a thing of the past (backporting to the Libretro version this week will be backported this week).
  • All configuration files are in /switch/ppsspp/, the route cannot be changed for the time being.
  • If you want you can copy PPSSPP files from /retroarch/core/savefiles/PPSSPP/(Saving files are compatible, saves are NOT compatible, however I will soon add an export option to Core-ish).

Note: Due to a problem in the toolchain, if you try to play 15 games in a row, the emulator may have a crash, the path may vary depending on the number of JIT buffer allocations.

Instructions for the installation

  • Drag and drop the switch folder into the SD card (overwrite files if existing).
  • If you do not copy the file controls.ini, you will need to remap the controls as default values for keyboard.
  • The resources are grouped, so you don’t have to worry about it.

Notes

  • If you are using ANY PPSSPP loading method other than Atmosphere’s title redirection function, do NOT report the problems encountered.
  • Do not use the NSP file.
  • After upstreaming, this port will probably become the official version.
