The developer wavemotion-dave continues to constantly update the StellaDSemulator, the program us to launch ROMs of the Atari 2600
consoleon the Nintendo DS, Nintendo DSi and Nintendo DS Lite systems.
In the new update, problems related to the configuration of the RAM were corrected, improved support for AR (Starpath/Supercharger) games to avoid overwriting of memory, and optimized the graphics performance of the Starpath Supercharger cartridge, achieving an improvement of 3-6 frames.
In addition, numerous improvements and code cleaning were made to optimize the project base.
Characteristics of
High level of compatibility to make games at least playable. Most games run at full speed on DSi consoles in native 133 MHz mode.
For the old DS-LITE and DS-PHAT, many of the simple 8k, 4k and 2k games will perfectly work more sophisticated bank-switching schemes really require the DSi for the best experience.
See the file Compatibility.txt
for a full list of supported ROMs. Generally these will be NTSC No-Intro or ROMHUNTER (the good ones).
- Complete console emulation including Reset, Select, Difficulty Switches, TV Type.
- Wide range of controllers including joysticks, paddles, guide controllers, booster grip, keyboard, 2-button Genesis and more.
- Savekey support with EEPROM 32K support.
- FA2 and Cherity supported with EEPROM backing support.
- The most popular bankwitching is supported up to 128K/256K BF/EF/DF/DF/SB and 512K 3E and 3F with up to 32K RAM.
- Supported the DPC+ Arm-Assisted games!
- Supported CDF/CDFJ/CDFJ+ Arm-Assisted games!
- High score support with up to 10 scores per game.
- Manuals for more than 100 of the common games included.
- Keyboard overlay for Star Raiders.
- Frame Blending to attenuate flicker.
Known problems
- All ARM-Assisted games (DPC+ or CDF/CDFJ/+) are generally quite complex enough to require a DSi running at the speed of the 2X CPU (through Unlaunch or Twilight Menu++) to get a good experience from it.
- Cherity’s music catchers are incomplete and the background music is not played correctly (otherwise the game can be played).
- Game file names cannot exceed 168 characters including the extension. Rename in shorter time if necessary.
- You cannot view more than 1200 files in a directory. You can split your games into multiple directories if necessary.
- The DS-Lite and the original DS-Phat run at the middle of the speed (67MHz vs. 134MHz) of the DSi/DSi-XL and as such you will find that only a subset of games runs at maximum speed… Fortunately, many of the best games will work well: Space Invaders, Missile Command, Asteroids, Yars Revenge, Adventure, Phoenix, Chopper Command, Megamania, Pitfall!Cosmic ArkDemon Attack
Instructions
Copying the file StellaDS.nds
on flash cart or SD card. Most launchers will automatically patch the game to run, so you should be fine, also press on the CART slot choose and load a game ( .bin
or, or, .a26
).
For some older launchers or flash carts you may need to apply a DLDI patch to the file StellaDS.nds
(but is unlikely as most launchers will automatically patch the trigger when running the emulator).
