XycloModGUI is an extension to the original Python tool Xyclomod , developed by Prehistoricman , designed to simplify and improve the BIOS modding experience for original Xbox consoles .

The tool features a lightweight and user-friendly graphical interface that allows you to perform various operations on the Xyclops chip , a microcontroller integrated into the motherboard of Xbox versions 1.6 and 1.6b, produced by Microsoft to manage some system functions.

The Xyclops chip contains the console’s BIOS (including kernels such as 1.00.5838.01) and handles low-level functions, such as console booting, power control, and other hardware operations.

Unlike previous versions, where the BIOS was stored in a rewritable TSOP (Thin Small Outline Package) chip, the BIOS in the Xyclops chip is stored in a non-rewritable ROM, which prevents direct flashing of the BIOS without a modchip.

Its main features include:

BIOS Dump: Extracts the BIOS from your Xbox console.
BIOS Verify: Verifies the integrity of the downloaded BIOS.
BIOS Erase/Flash ( Xyclops A02 chip only ): Erase and flash the BIOS on the chip.
SMC Program Dump: Allows you to extract the SMC (System Management Controller) program and other features not specified in detail.
Xyclops Command Panel: A control panel for sending commands to the Xyclops chip via serial connection. In Alpha 0.50, the PWR BTN command is available, which allows you to toggle the console’s power state. More commands are being tested for future releases.

Improvements over the original tool

Improved Serial Connection: Includes advanced logic for synchronization with the Xyclops chip, making the modding process more reliable.
Auto-negotiation: Automatically detects COM port and baud rate, simplifying setup.
Error Detection: Reports common issues, such as RX/TX bridges, to avoid frustration when modding.
User-friendly interface: The Windows GUI makes the process more accessible than the original Python tool, which required using the command line.

Hardware Support

A02 Chip: Full support for all features (dump, verify, erase and programming).
Chip B01: Limited support (dump only, not programming).

There is currently no complete guide, but a detailed version with videos is planned for the Beta phase.

The application connects to the Xyclops chip via a serial connection, so an appropriate hardware setup (cables, Xyclops chip, etc.) is required.

Warnings

Alpha Software: As this is an early release (0.50), XycloModGUI may have unidentified bugs. While the Xyclops chip appears to be resistant to flash failures, caution is advised.
