[Wii Scene] ModMii v8.0.4 released

A new update has been released for ModMii , the popular Windows PC tool that allows you to automatically download all the files needed to modify any Nintendo Wii console .

The application also allows you to generate a series of custom guides, depending on the specifications of the Wii console , and save the files in the most appropriate locations, facilitating the offline softmodding process.

This new release introduces support for the final release of USB Loader GX v4.0 r1282 , correctly distinguishing it from previous test versions.

At the developer’s request, the tool now downloads USB Loader GX directly from the GitHub repository instead of oscwii.org. Wii app update checks have also been improved: if an app folder exists but critical files such as boot.dolor are missing meta.xml, the system will force an update.

Notable changes include the updated UWUVCI handling , which now downloads the archive .zipinstead of the old installer .exe, which is no longer able to operate in silent mode.

Accepted alternate hashes for some downloadable files, in line with rustii/NUS implementations, and added the BlueBomb tool (info and links only) to page 2 of the classic version.

Also updated the description of ThemeMii Mod , specifying that it cannot download the base files but that these can be found via ModMii .

ModMii now includes d2x-cios-installer-vwii and d2x-cios-installer in the list of files subject to cleaning. Also, the old Dump Mii NAND has been replaced with nanddumper@IOS , now also recommended as an alternative to BootMii for performing NAND backups in the absence of SD cards.

In vWii mode, selecting exploits on disk no longer adds the secondary browser-exploit, thus avoiding confusion and unnecessary downloads of components like Aroma or CompatTitleInstaller.

In cases where you need to convert SD or HDD to MBR, DiskPart method has been added as a working alternative, while Windows Disk Management method has been removed, as it is ineffective on removable drives. Guides now include drop-down buttons to toggle conversion options.

Warning messages regarding MyMenuifyMod have been clarified: only version 2.0 or earlier can cause problems on vWii. For this reason, ModMii continues to recommend using csm-installer .

Additionally, the file nand-aes-dump.exeis no longer used for NAND extraction, now replaced by a faster method compatible with dumps done via nanddumper@IOS.

File size checks have been introduced when inserting a second NAND for cloning or defragmentation. Also paths with incorrect slashes ( /instead of \) are now automatically corrected, if ModMii is run as administrator.

Finally, the built-in version of WiiPy has been updated to fix a bug that prevented channels installed on EmuNAND from displaying under NEEK, even though they were appearing correctly in Dolphin.

Other fixes include a rare issue with downloading similar files at the same time, and a bug in generating vWii-only guides with only one exploit selected. The update closes with some minor general improvements and a note in memory of pyorot , a much-loved figure in the community.

What ModMii can do

  • It can download all the files needed to modify, update and downgrade your Wii system menu.
  • Update only your outdated softmods based on a SysCheck log from your Wii.
  • Create a custom, easy-to-follow guide to setting up a USB charger (including formatting/partitioning your external hard drive).
  • Install SNEEK, create emulated NAND, and batch extract Wii/Gamecube games for use with SNEEK+DI or UNEEK+DI.
  • Loading NEEK on a Wii without softmods via the withdrawal wizard.
  • Change the region of your Wii.
  • Download individual IOS/cIOS files, Official Wii Channels, System Menus, Wii Apps, DML, etc.
  • Install patched iOS without a Wi-Fi connection on your Wii.
  • Customize Bootmii, Wad Manager and MMM boot settings using ModMii Configurators to create custom configuration files.
  • It is also able to create multiple themes for the System Menu (csm and Wad with themes).
  • It provides a solution for the flipped Homebrew channel and HackMii installer, without vulnerable IOS issues.
  • The advanced Custom Downloads feature allows you to easily patch and change IOS/cIOS slot/version. It can also create 3 different types of dol and iso forwarders (only use this feature if you know what you are doing!!).
  • Drag and drop to open various types of Wii files and perform various functions (e.g., checking/cloning/defragmenting nand.bin, editing/unpacking/transmitting WAD files, creating mym and csm themes, launching dol and elf apps, HBC zip transfer tool, etc.).
  • Save and load custom queues for download.
  • And much, much more!

Changelog

  • USB Loader GX updated to final version v4.0 r1282! Thanks to blackb0x!
  • ModMii’s app update system can now distinguish between test versions and the final version of USB Loader GX v4.0 r1282.
  • The USB Loader GX download has been changed to always pull the latest version directly from the developer’s GitHub, rather than oscwii.org; this change was made at the request of the developer.
  • During oscwii update checks, Wii apps will be updated immediately if their folder is present but key files such as boot.dol/.elfor are missing meta.xml.
  • UWUVCI has been updated in the ModMii Classic Download Page 5, which now downloads and extracts the zip archive instead of the exe installer, which is no longer capable of silent installations.
  • Valid alternative hashes for certain files have been accepted, to align with rustii NUS download/implementation modes.
  • Added BlueBomb (with info and link only) to ModMii Classic Download Page 2. Also updated the description of ThemeMii Mod on Page 5 to specify that it cannot download the base app files, but that users can still obtain them through ModMii.
  • The programs d2x-cios-installer-vwii and d2x-cios-installer have been added to the list of files to be deleted during ModMii cleaning.
  • The old Dump Mii NAND has been replaced by nanddumper@IOS (thanks to thepikachugamer!) on the Download Page 2 and also in the vWii guides. Now nanddumper@IOS is also mentioned in the Wii guides as an alternative to BootMii for NAND backups, useful for those who have a hard drive but no SD card.
  • When selecting a disk exploit in the vWii-only wizards, the Wii U browser exploit will no longer be included as a secondary option, thus avoiding confusion and unnecessary downloads of components such as Aroma, EnvironmentLoader, Nanddumper and CompatTitleInstaller.
  • Added a new method (DiskPart) in the guides to convert partition style to MBR for SD and Hard Disk. The Windows Disk Management method has been removed since it does not work with removable disks. Added pop-up buttons (spoilers) to switch between MBR options.
  • Warning messages for MyMenuifyMod have been updated to clarify that only version 2.0 or earlier is dangerous on vWii ; ModMii continues to recommend using csm-installer .
  • The file nand-aes-dump.exe is no longer used to extract files nand.binfor use as EmuNAND. ModMii now uses a faster and easier method, which also supports dumps done via nanddumper@IOS , which nand-aes-dumpit cannot do.
  • File size checks are now performed even when inserting a second NAND for cloning or defragmentation.
  • ModMii automatically corrects user-entered paths if they contain slashes ( /) instead of backslashes ( \), a problem that only occurred when running as administrator.
  • The built-in version of WiiPy has been updated to fix a bug that prevented channels installed on EmuNAND with NEEK from displaying (although they still displayed correctly in Dolphin).
  • Previous versions of ModMii already included a fix for this issue as of April 22, 2025.
  • Fixed a rare bug where some downloads would be skipped if they were in the same queue (e.g. Region-Select-NUS-v2[E].wadand vWii-Region-Select-NUS-v2[E].wad). This only occurred with certain Wii and vWii items that were downloaded together.
  • Also fixed an anomaly in the generation of vWii-only wizard guides, which occurred if only one exploit was selected on disk.
  • Other minor changes and cleanup operations round out this update.
  • In memory of pyorot, aka shoutplenty; his light burned too quickly, but he left an indelible mark on those who knew him. You will be missed, friend.
