Argentine developer and student Joaquín Lucas Nieto recently presented on LinkedIn an innovative project called PSRetroX , which aims to bring PlayStation 2 games to PC natively , rather than through emulation.
Unlike solutions like PCSX2 , which simulate PS2 hardware and can present compatibility issues, PSRetroX attempts to completely rebuild games to run directly on PC, offering significant room for improvement, such as more stable framerates and higher resolutions.

The project, still in its early stages, shows a very limited state of progress: the graphical interface is at 10%, the disassembly of the MIPS architecture is at 30% and the recompilation for PC is at 15%, for an estimated total of 8% completion.
Despite this, the community showed strong interest, although there was no shortage of critical comments.
Some users have pointed out that, as of now, the project only supports a few file formats related to the game Crash Twinsanity , with still very basic functionality and hardcoded file paths.
Despite its current limitations, the potential of PSRetroX is enormous. Allowing iconic games like Rogue Galaxy , God Hand , Champions: Norrath , Black , or Shadow of the Colossus to run natively on PC would mean giving new life to titles that, on original hardware, were often penalized by technical constraints.
The project follows in the footsteps of other successful decompilation efforts, such as N64Recomp for Nintendo 64 or XenonRecomp for Xbox 360 , which have already demonstrated how much is possible in terms of quality and performance, as demonstrated by the PC ports of Super Mario 64 with ray tracing and support for 4K resolutions.
Following the media attention and virality it has achieved online, Nieto has clarified that the project has currently been on hiatus for several months .
PSRetroX was born as a personal and technical experiment in the field of low-level C++, and is not under active development .
Nonetheless, the code is publicly available and the developer has encouraged anyone who wishes to freely explore and reuse it , without any restrictions.
