Developer John Törnblom has released a new update for bdj-ipv6-hen , a tool that allows the execution of ELF payloads on PlayStation 5 consoles running firmware versions 3.00 to 4.51 by exploiting a vulnerability in the IPv6 protocol.

The bdj-ipv6-hen ISO is based on the use of a BD-J Xlet, which is a Java applet embedded in Blu-ray Discs that complies with the Blu-ray Disc Java (BD-J) specification.

This type of applet is run by the PlayStation 5’s built-in Blu-ray player when you insert a disc containing the modified code.

In the case of bdj-ipv6-hen , developer John Törnblom adapted this applet to exploit a specific privilege escalation vulnerability, originally identified by the well-known hacker TheFlow .

The update still brought only minor improvements to the user interface, while integrating a version of the kstuff payload from the EchoStretch repository .

There remain some limitations, such as the fact that the kstuff notification appears only after the disk drive is closed and that the payload may slow down other processes.

This approach, while effective, requires a physical disk and a console with vulnerable firmware, distinguishing it from other methods such as bdj-umtx-hen , which instead exploits a UMTX vulnerability.
