Developer Kozarovv has released a new update for gxemu , a heavily modified version of netemu , the PlayStation 2 emulator built into PlayStation 3 consoles .
Among the main new features of this version, the introduction of real-time monitoring of the temperatures of the CELL, RSX and South Bridge chips stands out, alongside an FPS counter: functions that until now were the exclusive prerogative of netemu .
Added to these is the manual control of the fan, with the possibility of choosing between different preset automatic modes (60, 65, 70 and 75 degrees) or adjusting the speed in a customized way, thus offering a more complete and tailored experience for the user.
As a further improvement, an old issue that prevented the Greatest Hits version of Crazy Taxi from launching has been fixed and now works perfectly.
Basic requirements
- Custom Firmware Evilnat 4.92.2 (required for full fan control support).
- gxemu updated to the latest version released by Kozarovv.
How to access gxemu menu
- Start a PlayStation 2 game.
- Press the button
on the controller to open the emulator menu. - Press and hold to enable indicators (temperature and FPS).
- As long as the button is held down, the controller string will be replaced by indicators.

Advanced fan control features only work if you hold down 
while entering combinations.
Combinations available in the menu
- → Show temperature and FPS indicators.
- + → Displays the current fan mode.
- + → Change fan mode between:
- MANUAL (SYSCON)
- CAR 60°
- CAR 65°
- CAR 70°
- CAR 75°
- + / → Increases/decreases the fan speed by 1% (in MANUAL mode only).
- + / → Increases/decreases the fan speed by 5% (in MANUAL mode only).
In-game indicators
Indicators can also be activated during gameplay , with these combinations:
- + (hold for 3 seconds) → Toggle in-game indicators on or off.
- + → Show a temporary popup with temperatures and FPS (without keeping them always visible).
In-game combinations only work during gameplay , not in the emulator menu.
Other features
- gxemu reads custom configurations from a dedicated directory .
- The fan speed remains consistent with that set by the SYSCON system, if MANUAL mode is used.
- Fixed a bug that prevented the game Crazy Taxi Greatest Hits from launching , now fully compatible.
To install the file ps2_gxemu.self, you must first enable writing to the dev_flash by mounting it as dev_blind, and then manually copy the file: an operation that is not always simple or within everyone’s reach.
To the rescue comes developer Aldo Vargas , who has created a convenient PKG file : once installed and executed, it will automatically take care of copying and replacing the necessary file, simplifying the entire process.
