A new update for the XEB+ Neutrino Launcher Plugin has been released , designed to integrate with the Xtreme Elite Boot Plus (XEB+) dashboard for PlayStation 2 consoles .

The plugin allows you to load PS2 game backups from multiple sources, including UDPBD , HDD , USB and MX4SIO , via Neutrino .

Requirements

A PlayStation 2 console configured to run unsigned code via a custom boot loader . PS2BBL is the recommended option.
All the specific requirements for the device you want to load games from.

HDD

A PlayStation 2 Phat console .
A PlayStation 2 network adapter or hard drive expansion .
A hard drive or SSD that is compatible with the PlayStation 2 ‘s network adapter or hard drive .
A USB drive formatted in FAT32 or exFAT of 1GB or more , used for XEB+ and other files .
A computer with a recent version of Python installed.
A PC hard drive dock or USB adapter (optional).

MX4SIO

An MX4SIO adapter .
An exFAT formatted SD card of at least 4GB ( 32GB or more recommended ).
A USB drive formatted in FAT32 or exFAT of 1GB or more , used for XEB+ and other files .
A computer with a recent version of Python installed.
A USB SD card reader (optional).

MMCE

An MMCE compatible device , such as MemCard Pro 2 or SD2PSX .
A microSD card of at least 4GB ( 32GB or more recommended ).
A USB drive formatted in FAT32 or exFAT of 1GB or more , used for XEB+ and other files .
A computer with a recent version of Python installed.
A USB microSD card reader (optional).

USB

An exFAT formatted USB drive of at least 4GB ( 32GB or more recommended ).
A PS2 boot loader that can read exFAT drives .
PS2BBL supports this feature by default, while FreeMcBoot can add exFAT support via BDM Assault .
A computer with a recent version of Python installed.

UDPBD

An OEM network adapter if you are using a PS2 Phat .
A Windows or Linux PC with an exFAT formatted drive and enough space for the game ISOs .
A USB drive formatted in FAT32 or exFAT of 1GB or more , used for XEB+ and other files .
An Ethernet cable to connect the PS2 to the PC .
If your PC does not have an Ethernet port, you can use a USB Ethernet adapter .

Configuration

Note: This setup procedure is for version 2.7 of the plugin. If you are upgrading from version 2.5 or earlier, you may need to remove the folder XEBPLUS/CFG/neutrinoLauncherfrom your USB drive. If you are upgrading from version 2.3 or earlier, you will need to rebuild all game lists. If you are upgrading from version 1.x, you will need to remove the old version of Neutrino Launcher from your XEB+ installation before proceeding, removing all its files in the APPS, PLGand folders CFG, as well as the files in the folders CDand DVDroot of your USB drive.

If you haven’t already, download the Xtreme Elite Boot Plus Xmas 2021 showcase .
Extract the XEBPL folder to the root of your USB drive and make sure you can launch the XEB+ dashboard on your PlayStation 2. Use 7-Zip to extract the XEBPLUS folder , as Windows does not natively support password files.rar .
The password is located in xebplus_xmas_showcase.rar\Distribution License.txt.
If you are using a USB drive formatted in exFAT , you will need to use PS2BBL and this version of wLaunchELF .
(Optional) Configure your preferred PS2 exploit to automatically run XEB+ on startup.
Download the latest version of this plugin from the Releases section .
Extract the XEBPLUS folder to the root of your USB drive , merging all folders if prompted.
Extract the List Builder directory to an easily accessible location on your computer .
Complete the setup by following the steps specific to the device you want to load games from .

HDD

Connect the hard drive or SSD to a computer and format it as an exFAT partition .
Create two folders called CDand DVDin the root of your hard drive .
Place your PlayStation 2 game disc images into the folders corresponding to their original media.
Make sure all disk images are in .iso.
Run the script from the included List BuilderGUI.py folder .
Select PS2 HDD under Drive Type .
Click Choose Directory under XEBPLUS Location and select the root of the USB drive containing XEB+ .
Click Choose Directory under Games Location and select the root of your hard drive .
Check the Create VMCs box if you want to use virtual memory cards .
Click on Build List and wait for the process to complete.
Eject both drives from your computer.
Connect the hard drive or SSD to the PlayStation 2 using the network adapter .
Insert the USB drive into one of the front ports of the console.
Start XEB+ on your PS2 and use Neutrino Launcher (HDD) to load games from the hard drive.

Repeat steps 3-9 to add or remove games from the hard drive .

MX4SIO

Connect the SD card to your computer and format it as exFAT partition .
Create two folders called CDand DVDin the root of the SD card .
Place your PlayStation 2 game disc images into the folders corresponding to their original media.
Make sure all disk images are in .iso.
Run the script from the included List BuilderGUI.py folder .
Select MX4SIO under Drive Type .
Click Choose Directory under XEBPLUS Location and select the root of the USB drive containing XEB+ .
Click Choose Directory under Games Location and select the root of your SD card .
Check the Create VMCs box if you want to use virtual memory cards .
Click on Build List and wait for the process to complete.
Eject both drives from your computer.
Insert the SD card into an MX4SIO adapter and connect it to memory card slot 2 on the PlayStation 2 .
Insert the USB drive into one of the front ports of the console.
Start XEB+ on your PS2 and use Neutrino Launcher (MX4SIO) to load games from the SD card.

Repeat steps 3-9 to add or remove games from the SD card .

MMCE

Please ensure that you have completed the initial setup of your MMCE device by following the instructions and that you have updated the firmware to the latest available version.
Insert the micro SD into the MMCE device and format the card using the device firmware, if not already done during the initial setup.
Connect the micro SD to your computer and create two folders called CDand DVDin the root of the card .
Place your PlayStation 2 game disc images into the folders corresponding to their original media.
Make sure all disk images are in .iso.
Run the script from the included List BuilderGUI.py folder .
Select MMCE under Drive Type .
Click Choose Directory under XEBPLUS Location and select the root of the USB drive containing XEB+ .
Click on Choose Directory under Games Location and select the root of the micro SD .
Check the Create VMCs box if you want to use virtual memory cards .
Click on Build List and wait for the process to complete.
Eject both drives from your computer.
Insert the micro SD into an MMCE adapter and connect it to memory card slot 1 on the PlayStation 2 .
Insert the USB drive into one of the front ports of the console.
Start XEB+ on the PS2 and use Neutrino Launcher (MMCE) to load games from the micro SD.

Repeat steps 3-11 to add or remove games from the micro SD .

UDPBD on Windows

Create a new folder called PS2anywhere on your PC, such as in Documents.
Inside the folder PS2, create two folders: CDand DVD.
Rip/Copy any PlayStation 2 ISOs you wish to load into the folder corresponding to their source media.
All CD games in .bin+ format .cuemust be converted to .iso. The sync app will automatically convert them if you place them in the folder CDand check the “Convert CD Bin to ISO” box before syncing.
Extract the folder UDPBD-for-XEB+ Sync Appfrom the latest version available on this page.
Connect the ethernet cable as shown:

For a direct connection, as seen in the previous step, set a manual IPv4 address and subnet mask:

If you are using a router instead of a direct connection, set your PC’s IP assignment to Automatic (DHCP) . Then follow this guide to assign a correct IP address on your PS2. LaunchELF defaults to 192.168.0.10 and must be changed manually to work on your network.

Hold down on the controller while FreeMCBoot/PS2BBL is booting to open LaunchELF . Go to MISC -> PS2Net :

Leave the PS2 idle on this screen for the next steps on the PC.

Run UDPBD-for-XEB+-GUI.exeand click connect :

Click on Select Game Path and choose an ISO from the folder DVD(step 8).
Click on Sync with PS2 , once the operation is complete the following message will be displayed:

Click on Start Server and make sure to allow it:

If you click it by mistake, move the UDPBD-for-XEB+ folder to a new folder or manually delete the inbound rules for udpbd-vexfat from Windows Defender Firewall with Advanced Security .

udpbd-vexfat will start minimized. The server must remain open and running throughout the game session (disable sleep mode on your PC).

Your PC setup is now complete, now launch XEB+ on your PS2:

It is recommended to set FreeMCBoot or PS2BBL to automatically run the .ELF.

Play!

Repeat steps 14-21 of the setup process after adding or removing games.

UDPBD on Linux (Ubuntu example)

Compile udpbd-server :

sudo apt update
sudo apt upgrade
sudo apt install git build-essential

Install .NET 8 , GParted and exfatprogs :

sudo apt install dotnet-runtime-8.0 gparted exfatprogs

Create a new exFAT partition in GParted and note the partition number. In this guide, the exFAT partition is /dev/nvme0n1p6 , but it will probably be slightly different on your system.

Mount the partition to /mnt/ps2. The storage device /dev/nvme0n1p6may be different:

sudo mkdir /mnt/ps2/
sudo mount /dev/nvme0n1p6 /mnt/ps2/ -o uid=$USER

Create the folders CDand in the exFATDVD partition . Rip/copy any PlayStation 2 images you want to load into the folder corresponding to their source media. Example: ./mnt/ps2/DVD/Grand Theft Auto III.iso
Extract the folder UDPBD-for-XEB+ Sync Appfrom the latest version available on this page.
Connect the ethernet cable as shown:

The server must remain open and running throughout the game session.
Launch XEB+ and play!
To add or remove games, stop the server and then remount the exFAT storage device to /mnt/ps2 :

sudo mount /dev/nvme0n1p6 /mnt/ps2/ -o uid=$USER

Add your games and repeat steps 15-19 of the setup process on Linux.

MX4SIO

Connect the SD card to your computer and format it as exFAT partition.
Create folders named CDand DVDinside the SD card.
Copy any PlayStation 2 disc images you wish to load into the folder corresponding to their original media. All disc images must be in .iso.
Run the script GUI.pyfrom the included folder List Builderand select MX4SIO under Drive Type .
Click the Choose Directory button under XEBPLUS Location and navigate to the USB drive containing your XEB+ installation.
Click the Choose Directory button under Games Location and navigate to your SD card.
Click on Build List and wait for the process to complete.
Eject both drives from your computer. Insert the SD card into an MX4SIO adapter and connect it to Memory Card Slot 2 on the PlayStation 2. Insert the USB drive into one of the front USB ports.
Start XEB+ on your PS2 and use Neutrino Launcher (MX4SIO) to load games from the SD card.

Repeat steps 3-7 to add or remove games from the SD card.

USB

Make sure your USB drive is formatted as an exFAT partition. You will need to reformat it and repeat steps 2-4 if it is not.
Create folders named CDand DVDinside the USB drive.
Copy any PlayStation 2 disc images you wish to load into the folder corresponding to their original media. All disc images must be in .iso.
Run the script GUI.pyfrom the included folder List Builderand select USB under Drive Type .
Click the Choose Directory button under XEBPLUS Location and navigate to your USB drive.
The Games Location will automatically be set to the same folder.
Click on Build List and wait for the process to complete.
Eject the USB drive and connect it to one of the front USB ports on the PlayStation 2.
Launch XEB+ on your PS2 and use Neutrino Launcher (USB) to load games from the USB drive.

Repeat steps 3-7 to add or remove games from the USB drive .

Adding Artwork

The Neutrino Launcher plugin can display game-specific artwork in the selection menu. This feature uses the same file type and naming conventions as Open PS2 Loader , allowing the plugin to leverage existing PS2 artwork libraries designed for OPL.

To use this feature, the following additional steps are required:

The UDPBD Sync app will automatically install the artwork if you check the “Download Artwork” box before clicking “Sync”.
This will download the artwork from the OPLM backup on archive.org.

Manual artwork installation

Prepare or acquire artwork files with the same file format and naming conventions used by OPL.
Only the background artwork files ( _BG) and the disc icons ( _ICO) are used by this plugin.
Some recent versions of OPL have added support for 128×128 disk icons. These are not supported, it is recommended to use only 64×64 icons.
Copy the artwork files you want to use into the folder /ARTor /XEBPLUS/GME/ARTUSB drive.
If it exists, the folder ARTon the root of the USB will always take priority over /XEBPLUS/GME/ART.
Launch XEB+ and select one of the neutrino Launcher plugins.
If the plugin detects files in your artwork folders, it will automatically create an artwork cache in the CFG/neutrinoLauncher.
The caching process can take a long time the first time you run it, potentially over an hour if you have a very large game library.

Adding Cheats

Neutrino Launcher can be configured to load Cheat Device before starting a game, allowing the use of Action Replay / Gameshark type cheats.
To use this feature, follow these steps:

Create or acquire cheat database files ( .cht) in the Cheat Device format.
Database files should only contain cheats for a single game.
Database files must be named with the PlayStation 2 Title ID in the format SLUS_123.45.cht.
Create a folder called CHTin the root of the USB drive containing the XEB+ installation.
Copy the files .chtinto the folder CHT.

troubleshooting

Verifying Game File Integrity: If a game is not working properly, the first thing to do is verify the file hash.
Manually resetting plugin configuration: If the neutrino Launcher plugin freezes or becomes unresponsive, you can manually delete the configuration files.
Network Test: When using UDPBD, it is very important that the network connection is fast and stable. Use the command pingto test it.

Add to Favorites: Adds the game to your favorites list.
Global / Per-Game Settings: Allows you to apply global or per-game settings.
Enable Cheat Device: Allows the use of cheats for the selected game.

Neutrino Launcher Settings

Enable HDD: Allows the use of neutrino Launcher (HDD) in the XEB+ dashboard.
Enable USB: Allows the use of neutrino Launcher (USB) in the XEB+ dashboard.
Enable Artwork: Allows game-specific artwork to be displayed in the menu.

Integration with custom themes

Each neutrino Launcher plugin uses its own dashboard icon, which can be replaced with custom icons. The file names for these icons are provided in the XEB+ theme.
