Hướng Dẫn Mod Đèn LED Báo Ổ Cứng (HDD LED) Cho PlayStation 2 Fat

Một thiếu sót khá lớn trên dòng PS2 Fat là Sony đặt đèn LED báo hoạt động của ổ cứng ở… bên trong máy. Bản mod này sẽ giúp bạn đưa đèn LED ra vị trí biểu tượng chữ “O” trong logo Sony ngay mặt trước, giúp máy trông hiện đại và chuyên nghiệp hơn.

1. Lưu Ý Quan Trọng

• Khả năng tương thích: Đèn LED này sẽ KHÔNG hoạt động nếu bạn dùng các bộ Network Adapter “lô” (như GameStar). Bạn cần dùng Network Adapter chính hãng của Sony.
• Độ khó: Yêu cầu kỹ năng khoan và hàn linh kiện chính xác.

2. Chuẩn Bị Phần Vỏ Máy

1. Tháo Logo Sony: Gỡ miếng nhôm logo Sony (gần nút Power/Eject), nó được dán bằng băng dính hai mặt.
2. Khoan chữ “O”: Dùng mũi khoan 2.5mm sau đó tăng lên 3mm để tạo lỗ ngay giữa chữ “O”. Hãy làm thật chậm vì viền chữ O sau khi khoan xong sẽ mỏng hơn 1mm.
3. Khoan vỏ nhựa: Dán logo lại để lấy dấu, sau đó dùng mũi khoan 3mm xuyên qua lớp nhựa của vỏ máy.
4. Chọn đèn LED: Nên dùng loại LED khuếch tán đầu bằng (3mm flat top diffused LED) để ánh sáng tỏa đều và đẹp. Cắt chân LED ngắn lại (tầm 1mm) để tránh vướng víu.

3. Sơ Đồ Chân Trên Bo Mạch Chủ (PS2 Fat)

Dành cho các đời máy 8 vít (Phổ biến nhất):

• Màu Cam (HDD Activity): Chân thứ 4 từ trái sang ở hàng dưới cùng của cổng kết nối Network Adapter.
• Màu Đỏ (5V): Các điểm cấp nguồn 5V trên bo mạch.
• Lưu ý: Bắt buộc phải sử dụng thêm điện trở (Resistor) phù hợp với loại LED bạn chọn để tránh cháy bóng.

Dành cho các đời máy 10 vít (Đời cũ):

• Hàn trực tiếp vào các điểm cạnh đèn LED D501 và điện trở R574 trên bo mạch chủ.

4. Cách Mod Nâng Cao: Chuyển Đèn Khay Đĩa Thành Đèn HDD

Nếu khay đĩa của bạn đã hỏng hoặc bạn không muốn khoan lỗ mới, bạn có thể biến đèn Xanh dương của khay đĩa thành đèn báo HDD:

1. Tìm và tháo điện trở 0 Ohm trên đường tín hiệu TRAY_LED_ON (thường nằm sau cổng kết nối Power/Eject).
2. Hàn một sợi dây từ chân tín hiệu HDD (chân thứ 4 hàng dưới) vào miếng đệm của điện trở vừa tháo (phía gần cổng kết nối).

5. Vô Hiệu Hóa Đèn LED HDD Gốc (Nếu muốn)

Để ánh sáng không bị lọt vào bên trong máy, bạn có thể tháo điện trở R574 (thường đi kèm với đèn LED D501 trên bo mạch chủ) để tắt hoàn toàn đèn mặc định của Sony.

Sony decided to put the PS2 HDD activity LED inside of the console so I decided to place mine inside the “O” on the Sony badge near the power and eject buttons.

NOTE: The LED will not light up with 3rd party HDD adapters like the GameStar adapter.

PS2 Case:

1. Remove the Sony badge from around the Power and Eject buttons. It is held in by double sided tape.

2. Use a few drills and roll them in your fingers to put a hole through the centre black part of the O in the Sony badge. Start with say 2.5mm then go to 3mm.

NOTE: The Sony badge is a thin piece of aluminium so go slowly and be as accurate as possible as there is no room for error. The thickness of the edges of the O when done will be less than 1mm.

3. Put the Sony badge back on the PS2 and use a 3mm drill to mark the centre of the O. Then remove the badge and drill all of the way through the PS2 plastic with a 3mm drill.

4. For best results use a 3mm flat top diffused LED and make the top of it level with the raised letters of the Sony badge text. If the LED has a lip on it around the bottom near the legs use a file and file it down so that it is level with the rest of the LED. Keep the LED legs about 1mm max in length so that the wires won’t collide with the power /eject buttons plastic mounting parts.

5. Feed the LED through the hole with wires and add a resistor. Hot glue the LED in place. Run the LED wires along the case above the disc drive and use sticky tape to tape the LED wires in place. Take note of the path the wire takes and replicate it on your PS2.

For 10 screw PS2 FAT models except the launch Japanese models. Solder to the side of the D501 LED and R574 resistor.

NOTE: Use a resistor in the LED wiring.

ALTERNATE – DISC DRIVE LED to HDD LED

Due to the PS2s age resulting disc trays sticking and lasers wearing out you may want to connect the HDD led to the Blue tray status LED. Find the service manual for your motherboard model then find and remove the “0” Ohm resistor on the “TRAY_LED_ON” trace behind the Power/Eject connector on PS2 motherboards GH-010 models and newer. Then solder a wire between the HDD activity pin and the removed resistor solder pad closest to the “TRAY_LED_ON” connector.

DISABLE THE ONBOARD HDD ACTIVITY LED

Find the service manual for your motherboard model then find and remove the resistor connected to the onboard LED D501 which should be the same name for your models as well. On both of my FAT motherboards the resistor is named R574.
