Released nds bootstrap v1.6.2

A new update for nds-bootstrap has not lasted-bootstrap, the open-source application allows native use of ROMs and homebrew for Nintendo DS/DSi without the use of an emulator.

The program works on SD cards for the Nintendo DSi and 3DS via a Custom Firmware and Nintendo DS via Flashcard.

The standalone version of nds-bootstrap does not require the use of a frontend, as it uses an ini file to load its parameters, even if the use of a frontend would be highly recommended.

TWiLight Menu++ serves as a frontends-bootstrap. This frontend offers 7 customizable launchers, including the ability to start emulators and other homebrews.

In addition, it provides anti-piracy patches for games and automatically configures nds-bootstrap for every single game, with customizable options.

This is the second hotfix release after the release of version 1.6.0 which led to an improvement in the stability of wireless communications by transferring the reading/write operations on SD from vBlank and IPC Sync IRQs (arm7) to the main cycle (arm7), reducing random connection dropouts.

The update, however, introduced the ability to disable sleep mode for consoles that mistakenly activate this mode with the lid open.

In addition, an issue was addressed that prevented the start of games that use NAND saves, such as WarioWare: DIY, Jam with the Band and Face Training.

Installation

  • To install nds-bootstrap, download the archive.
  • Extract the files .ndsnds-bootstrap in the folder root:/_nds/. .
  • For TWLMenu++ users, extract the file .verIn the folder root:/_nds/TWiLightMenu/(only when you are upgrading nds-bootstrap, as it is included in TWiLight Menu++).

Compatibility with the ROMs

nds-bootstrap supports most DS ROMs, with some exceptions (see compatibility list).

  • From nds-bootstrap you can improve the gaming experience with faster tricks and loading times than regular cartridges (for games that support those features).
  • The game is supported and will be saved with the extension .sav, and and .pubor, or, .prvfor DSiWare.
  • Anti-piracy patches can be loaded via IPS files, but are not included in the software itself.
  • nds-bootstrap also supports many homebrew applications, including games like DSCraft (please check in the compatibility list above).

The B4DS mode (result of running nds-bootstrap on DS-mode flashcard with SCFG blocked or DS Phat/lite):

  • It supports some DS ROMs, and you can increase compatibility by entering a DS Memory Expansion Pak.
  • From version 0.50.2 you can also start Nintendo DSi+Internet, see the list of supported DSiWare titles.

Changelog

Included in TW i L ight Menu++ v27.7.0

What is new

  • For consoles that mistakenly activate sleep mode with the lid open, you can now disable sleep mode. v1.6.2

Bug fixes

  • Improved wireless communications stability by moving SD R/W operations from IRQ vBlank and IPC Sync (of arm7) to the main loop (of arm7) (once again, gettting by hooking SWI Halt calls)!
    • This means that random interruptions of the connection will be minimal or zero (may vary depending on the game).
    • Mario Kart DS will now properly host a multiplayer game with a single card.
    • No more slowdowns while reading the ROM from SD card with wireless communications!
    • Compared to previous versions implementing the SWI Halt coupling, some optimizations have been made to reduce the slowdown due to such a coupling. There was no slowdown in known games that had them before, such as CTGP Nitro (v1.0).
  • Fixed a neglected bug (which occurred from version 1.1.0) causing the system to crash during the attempt to stop data while connecting to PBR viaPokemon Diamond,Perlaor, or,Platino. .
    • Probably the same disconnection bug will persist.
  • Cut the Rope no longer shows any black screens for Memory Pit users!
  • Fixed a neglected bug that caused 512MB ROMs to be loaded in Memory Pit. v1.6.1
  • Fixed the issue that prevented the start of games using NAND saves, such as WarioWare: DIY, Jam with the Band and Face Training. v1.6.2

Bugs known

By moving the R/W SD operations to the main loop, the following will occur.

  • Compared to previous versions, there may be some small slowdown in some games (e.g. in Pokemon B/W 2, during the title screen).
  • On the DSi, Nervous Brickdown and Big Bang Mini consoles will lock themselves on black screens after company logos. Both will still work on 3DS consoles, as those games are preloaded in RAM.
  • If random connection interruptions are still occurring, try deactivating the setting Card read DMAthe tab in TWLMenu++ or in the settings menus of the forwarder for the game.
