A leak has revealed that the Nintendo Switch 2 ‘s SoC (System on Chip) , which uses 2021 components, has been exposed and appears to be “noticeably weaker” than the Steam Deck .
In particular, the console’s motherboard has been leaked early, offering new insights into its performance and highlighting a major weakness: the Nintendo Switch 2 ‘s CPU is rather lacking.
This could make it difficult for the console to run certain types of games and genres, such as open world games, real-time strategy games, simulators, MMORPGs, and in general any game with high demands on physics and AI.
The SoC appears to have been finalized in 2021, which suggests that the console could have been released much earlier if it weren’t for the pandemic and the related difficulties.
While the GPU has already been deemed rather weak, the CPU in particular shows plenty of room for improvement, coming in much less powerful than the one in the 2022 Steam Deck.
For many games, this shouldn’t be a problem, but just like the original Nintendo Switch, it will limit the ability to play certain genres on the Switch 2, especially high-end real-time strategy and grand strategy games.
