[3DS Scene] NTR-HR v0.3.2.0 pre-release released

A new pre-release update has been released for  NTR-HR , the enhanced version of NTR Streamer and homebrew application based on NTR CFW , designed to optimize frame rate when streaming wirelessly on the New 3DS.

NTR is a homebrew originally made by cell9 that allows for game patching, debugging, and wireless streaming on 3DS consoles.

This fork attempts to improve the wireless streaming aspect of homebrew. It is currently capable of 60-90 fps on medium quality settings (at 18Mbps).

Video streaming is only compatible with New 2DS/New 3DS models, it is also compatible with Snickerstream , Chokistream and other NTR viewers.

This new version includes the latest delta encoding adjustment, which seems to work as well as the other options in the worst cases, and better in other circumstances, according to our tests. A minor issue with overlay statistics has also been fixed.

Changes from NTR version 3.6

  • Use up to three cores for encoding:
    • Frame rate improved by 80%-120% compared to version 3.6.
  • You can now switch between games while keeping streaming active.
  • Eliminated green tint when streaming games with RGB565 output (e.g. SMT4).
  • You can now update your quality, QoS, and screen priority settings while streaming.
  • New item in the NTR menu (accessible by pressing X + Y), which can be used to change the viewer port and other settings.
    • NFC patch functionality.
    • You can launch Remote Play from the menu and change the viewer IP.
  • Avoid encoding duplicate frames (when the actual frame rate is lower than NTR encoding speed).
    • It should lead to better frame rate.
  • Various optimizations and dependency updates.
  • Fixed race conditions in the startup unhook code. Should no longer crash or fail to initialize randomly when starting NTR or Remote Play.

All other features have been removed, except streaming and PLG loading:

  • Screenshot, debugger and night color are available with Luma3DS/rosalina.
  • Realtime save/load doesn’t save/load handles (and has no way to do so) and generally doesn’t work very well. I can add it back if needed.
  • There is no way to disable high CPU/L2 cache clock after remote game launch. I might add an option for that.

Known issues

  • The skip duplicate frames feature does not always work as expected.
  • Some games are not compatible with streaming.
  • By loading cheat plugins, launching another game may cause crashes.
  • Flickering and crashing issues with UWPStreamer and NTRView for Wii U.
  • The 3DS web browser crashes when used with Remote Play.

Recommended Setup

Connecting 3DS to PC

  • Use a dedicated WiFi dongle to host a hotspot for the 3DS, disabling 5GHz mode to maximize stability and connection speed.
  • If possible, use a Raspberry Pi connected to your PC via Ethernet to manage the hotspot, ensuring connection speeds of up to 18Mbps without packet loss.

Viewer Settings

  • The recommended quality is between 75 and 90, giving you between 55 and 75 fps at 75 quality and 40-60 fps at 90 quality, assuming a good WiFi connection.
  • QoS up to 18 for about 18Mbps, with higher values causing more packet loss.
  • Priority settings are up to the user.

Changelog

  • Last adjustment for delta encoding (hopefully). It seems to work as well as the other options in the worst cases and better in other cases, according to my tests.
  • Minor fix for overlay stats (this is really the last time).
